RICK GORDON MUSIC

A collection of my music

Rick live.jpg

Welcome to my music site.

I have been writing, performing, recording and generally messing around in music for longer than I care to remember. I began learning piano and guitar while at school and soon found myself singing and playing in various local bands.

By the early 1970's I was in a band I co-founded with my buddies Ross Ellis, John Steel, Chris Howard and John Ellis called, imaginatively, Gordon, Ellis & Steel (GES). We wrote a bunch of songs and spent several years gigging around the London pub and club circuit. We eventually signed a management and record deal with Mushroom Records, with whom we recorded an album at Chalk Farm Studios in London. Sadly, financial issues with the record label forced it to close before the album was fully completed, which meant the album was never properly finished and didn't get released at that time.

However, remarkably, it did make it into the public arena some 40 years later when a selection of those songs were finally released as the album "Looking Forward Thinking Back" by Cherry Red Records in 2018, after the original recordings, which were assumed to have been lost, were rediscovered in 2017.

We've also had tracks featured on a couple of compilation albums; "Spaced Out - The Story of Mushroom Records" and "Across The Great Divide - Getting It Together In The Country" which features artists such as Rod Stewart, The Hollies, Procol Harum, Heads Hands and Feet and others.

Here at Rick Gordon Music you will find some of the various projects I have been working on in recent years, both original songs and a collection of my favourite covers, solo and in collaboration with former band mates Ross & Chris.

Having a small home studio has allowed me to indulge my creative passion. I have always been fascinated with the way music has the ability to evoke so much emotion in us and with its creative process's. Starting out with a blank piece of paper, or a blank computer screen these days, and developing a song and creating a recording from scratch through to a finished piece of music (if you are ever able to say it is finished!) to the point when it is worthy of publication and sending out for the world to hear, is a magical, rewarding, often nerve-wracking but ultimately satisfying process.

"Under The Covers" is the title of a collection of covers I have recorded of some of my favourite songs, mostly it has to be said, by the Eagles, who have been a massive influence since 1973 when I first heard the Desperado album. I hope you enjoy my attempts to pay tribute to some of the songwriters and performers I have enjoyed listening to most and who have been the biggest inspiration to me. I don't claim any ownership of these covers and acknowledge that the copyright remains with others.

"The Instrumental Collection" is a collection of original instrumental pieces that I have written primarily for licensing use with film, video, TV, advertising etc and are published by Generis Records.

"Looking Forward Thinking Back" is a selection of the songs that were written and originally recorded in the mid 1970's at Chalk Farm Studios in London, as Gordon, Ellis & Steel. The album was released in 2018 by Cherry Red Records after the original tapes, thought to have been lost, were rediscovered and the recordings remastered.

More recently, and especially during the Covid-19 lockdown, I have recorded and released a couple of singles, again in collaboration with my long-term music buddies Ross Ellis and Chris Howard. These are available on Spotify, iTunes and all major streaming platforms.

Scroll down below where you will find the music. Feel free to stream, download and of course share.

Thank you for listening.
